Ramble on

Societys beliefs are like a pendulum. On one side is more personal freedom, and the other is more protection for the people. As the pendulum nears one side society starts to slowly reach a point of criticality where that belief cannot go further without anarchy. To avoid this society starts to shift towards the opposite end. The pendulum starts falling and repeats this process for the existence of the society. This was a concept introduced to me in my college political science class from Prof. L. She explained this such as a country wants it personal freedom, to not be stared down by the government in order for them to be protected, so the people fight against it, until the freedom becomes the norm and so lax, until the point where an event occurs or people start to get scared where they start wanting more protection. I believe those who beg for money on the side of the road are making society less empathetic because they try not to give them money. This is a vast over-generalization, but I believe it gets the point across. It's no surprise that the human race is becoming more and more apathetic as time goes on, given the way the world is now. Media is showing more and more vulgarity, gore, and violence than before, and more people are getting exposed to this at younger and younger ages. This exposure is desensitizing us collectively and we respond less and less to this stimuli (an argument shown to me by Bobby). However, I believe that the desensitization is only to a limited extent, with the border being the killings we see in media (which we shrug off as it is not affecting us in any immediate way) to 'ignoring' the beggar on the side of the road. This can hold many concepts, such as the entire existence we experience is not real, ie; simulation, prison, nothing more than what we experience, or it could be the reality we experience as a citizen is not real, ie; the government and regulated world/news we see daily is all fabricated to create a 1984-ish life

It's a terrible personality trait

I believe that if Americans (as well as other countries) continue to praise dogs and keep increasing the general love for the species¹, in a hundred years dogs will be praised close to God status. The newer generations are on a increasing trend of not practicing religion, which may or may not result in a common drive in the human race which is to praise some figure². Regardless of this, dogs are becoming more widely loved, while this may be the same amount as it was 100 years ago, it is being vocalized more and expressed to the world more. If this trend continues it isn't unlikely that it will reach a point where dogs are seen as an idol for happiness, peace, or some other ethical good. ¹ As seen in the past few years, where the love for dogs has become more prominent in all forms of media (commercials, tv and movies, social media) ² This is only a personal correlation made between a man's search for meaning (resulting in a god like idol) and the end result.
